Ask if they\u2019d take empty bottles\/cans once used to be recycled i.e. tins of paint, gas cannisters etc.<\/span><\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>When possible, try to source from local\/UK based suppliers to keep your carbon footprint as minimal as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Consolidating deliveries as much as possible from regular suppliers \u2013 Flints, Creffields etc.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>When using recycled material, make sure you have certification or confirmation of what the original was, what treatments have been applied and where the material came from \u2013 e.g. is recycled foam fire rated? What paint\/finishes have been used? Is the wood\/timber from responsibly sourced suppliers (i.e not using hard woods like teak or Far Eastern plywood)?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Be mindful of waste from recycled materials and what their onward journey is \u2013 try and link waste disposal with the wider building waste companies and local authority guidance and find out if there are specific waste streams that you can use.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>When making paper props, try to use recycled paper, and ideally recycled paper that is made in the UK.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Try to minimise the use of polystyrene as much as possible. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flints.co.uk\/product\/All\/PROBPB?proddesc=Composta-Block-850-x-560-x-67-mm&amp;category=eco-textures-and-materials&amp;catdesc=Eco-Textures-and-Materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This product<\/a> is good alternative (although it doesn&#8217;t seem to be suitable for fine carving\/detailed work).<\/span><\/span><span><span>When possible, swap new plastic for recycled\/sustainably made plastic \u2013 Amari now offer a <a href=\"https:\/\/amariplastics.com\/sustainable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">range.<\/a><\/span><\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><span>Reduce toxic cleaning chemicals (which also supports COSHH) and try to use eco-products instead. You can find many alternatives from this book: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nancybirtwhistle.co.uk\/my-books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nancy Birtwhistle, Clean &amp; Green<\/a>.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Bring in old food\/product pots from home to use as paint kettles\/storage jars.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Invest in sustainable tools to reduce waste of chemicals and single use plastics (i.e silicone spatulas for mixing instead of plastic spoons and stirrers)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_id=&#8221;buying&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;3em&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span>Prop Buying<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Try to source as many props from your own stock\/stores to keep your carbon footprint as low as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Make connections with other theatres\/communities in your local area and borrow from them as much as possible.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>If you need to buy, source from second hand dealers \u2013 antique fairs, second hand shops, car boot sales etc.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>There are also many online auctions\/companies where second-hand props and furniture can be found. Be mindful of location to try and keep carbon footprints down.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Online recycling\/repurposing companies and individuals (e.g. Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree etc) are also a good source. Be careful with safeguarding, carrying cash, travelling alone and lifting\/carrying heavy objects.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span>Prop hire houses\/companies are another good alternative \u2013 these can be found across the country.
