On May 7, at the RESAD (Royal Academy of Drama) in Madrid, the “Proposal for a Strategic Framework for Environmental Sustainability in the Performing Arts in Spain” was officially launched. This document is the result of months of intensive collaboration between theater professionals, networks, companies and cultural managers from across the country.

Teatro Arriaga Antzokia contributed to this process out of the firm belief that the transition to more sustainable models cannot stand alone. The proposal, built on the foundation of the Theatre Green Book Spain, aims to provide the public authorities responsible for culture with a concrete, step-by-step path for the entire sector.

The document focuses on three core areas – Productions, Operations and Buildings – and addresses very practical realities: production schedules, mobility, energy consumption and shared resources. At the same time, it recognizes that a large public theater, an independent company and a small-scale festival each face very different challenges.

This document proves that there is a collective will to create shared framework conditions: support networks, training, shared resources and universal measurement systems. In this way, sustainability is no longer seen as an additional burden, but as a natural part of how we work.

The document can be read from now on the Theatre Green Book Spain page.
