At the end of 2019, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Opéra National de Paris, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Royal Theatre La Monnaie in Brussels will ride the Collectif 17h25 – a reference to the time when they agreed on its foundations – to work together on the sustainable transformation of their creation and production processes in the performing arts.

The objectives of the collective were:

  • Experiment with creating and using standard structures in sets.

  • Assess the impact of using standard structures, both for the collective and for the cultural sector as a whole.

  • Enable all interested institutions at the European level to use the tools developed.

The Collectif 17h25 has developed a standardized tool that serves as a common system: a structural module based on a 200 mm grid. Standardized within the five opera houses, this “MOD 200” makes it possible to build a reference grid based on a multiple of 200 mm. Thanks to this tool, all the technical elements of the sets can be aligned, making them compatible and interchangeable.

After an initial phase of dissemination to artistic teams, particularly set designers, the collective plans to create shareable documents so that everyone can benefit from the innovations: specifications, explanatory videos, a catalog of stock items and lists of partners.

On March 5, 2026, the results of the project were launched, and its key resources can be found below:
